Case Study - Empowering Communities through Digital Inclusion

Jasmin from Women with Wings accepts a laptop donation from Karen from GovTech

Background

In a time where digital literacy is increasingly becoming a crucial skill, the Salford Digital Inclusion team has worked to help residents gain access to digital tools and education. Understanding the need for collaboration to achieve greater community reach, the Digital Inclusion team partnered with GovTech, a leader in digital process automation, to identify a community organisation delivering essential digital skills training to Salford residents.

Identifying a Partner: Women with Wings

As part of GovTech's dedication to social value and its commitment to supporting community organisations in Salford that promote digital inclusion for residents, the Salford Digital Inclusion team and GovTech sought to identify a community organisation whose mission of digital empowerment aligned with theirs and would benefit most from GovTech's donation. After careful consideration we selected, Women with Wings, a Little-Hulton based organisation dedicated to supporting women in gaining training, employment, and self-employment opportunities.

Women with Wings operates from a dedicated space where women can learn new skills, earn qualifications, and even start their own businesses. The organisation has been instrumental in transforming the lives of many women, especially those from marginalised communities, by equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in today's digital economy.

Parallels Between Women with Wings and GovTech

The partnership between Women with Wings and GovTech is an example of how organisations with different core missions can collaborate to achieve shared goals.

Both Women with Wings and GovTech recognise the importance of digital literacy as a foundational skill for success in the modern world. For Women with Wings, digital skills are a gateway to opportunities in employment and entrepreneurship. For GovTech, enabling digital literacy is a key component of their broader mission to ensure that technology serves everyone in society, not just those who are already tech-savvy.

The Gift of Empowerment: GovTech’s Contribution

To enhance their digital skills training program Karen (Business Development Manager) from GovTech gifted a brand new laptop to Jasmin (Founder and CEO) from Women with Wings. This laptop was more than just a piece of hardware; it was a tool that would enable Jasmin to deliver high-quality digital skills training to her students, many of whom had limited access to technology.

This gift underscored GovTech’s commitment to social values and digital inclusion. By donating necessary technology, GovTech ensured that Women with Wings could continue to deliver on its mission of empowering women, helping them acquire the digital skills needed to navigate the modern workforce.

Conclusion

The partnership between Salford Digital Inclusion, GovTech, and Women with Wings serves as a model for how organisations can collaborate to address the digital divide. It illustrates the power of combining resources and expertise to create meaningful, lasting change in communities.

Moving forward, the collaboration is set to grow stronger, with plans to explore more ways GovTech can support Women with Wings, including donating essential software tools. The successful partnership between Salford Digital Inclusion, GovTech, and Women with Wings highlights the powerful impact that can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared commitment to community empowerment and digital literacy.
