We are proud to have represented Salford for nationwide Digital Leaders Week
Our teams have done a magnificent job of showcasing all Salford has achieved and highlighting our aims and ambitions going forward. To see the variety of national events that took place please follow the link below:
Throughout the week Salford have hosted many live online events contributing to the vast DL100 week schedule. Our live events have included the Salford digital leaders talk with Debbie Brown, Steve Fry and Mo Isap discussing pioneering digital change and how digital is being used in Salford, followed by Mark Nevin and Steve McAnulty highlighting how Salford has been helping residents with the Spirit of Salford Helpline.
The Digital Inclusion team showcased the Digital Providers Network journey and explained how they are closing the digital divide ensuring nobody is left behind, while Claire Fewings joined the GMCA to discuss the work being done in Salford to fix the divide. Following from this we heard from Penny Mitchell, Jane Betts and Dianne Smith regarding Salford’s COVID financial response to supporting our residents and businesses during the pandemic.
Salford’s offerings of live events rounded off the week with the DevOps team’s talk around moving from a “monolithic” system to looking forward to the future, followed by our guest speaker Naomi Timperley and her FreelanceHER100 team highlighting women in business who are working to launch and grow sustainable businesses in the media, digital, technology and creative sectors in the North West.
And a huge thanks to the University of Salford’s Festival of Entrepreneurship and Innovation hosted by the Launch Business Incubator in the Salford Business School for allowing us to collaborate and share events through the week with Naomi Timperley.

What has been happening in our Gateways IN Salford?
Each of our five Gateways and Hubs have been driving the digital initiatives locally to ensure our communities are being included every step of the way.
At Eccles we have seen a brilliant uptake of the digital device donations scheme Community Calling, and their fantastic Digital Leaders display is the perfect backdrop to highlight some of the digital mentoring we’re providing, as seen in our photos below, assisted by the wonderful Linete out and about at Irlam Library.
After Broughton’s Mark Nevin’s amazing live talk on Wednesday, their drive to bring digital directly to our people has seen them running digital tours, digital help and support and the Big Digital Quiz helping to engage our youth residents each day this week.
Pendleton, Walkden and Swinton have been delving deep, providing invaluable assistance with our Better Off scheme, assisting people with getting online while also supporting any residents using the Tech Clinic on offer in each hub.
A huge thanks to all the gateway staff who have worked hard to promote and support the variety of digital services they have to offer.
