Community Spotlight - Sovereign House

Sovereign House: Bridging the Digital Divide in Greater Manchester

Sovereign House is a charity in Greater Manchester that helps people of all ages learn digital skills. Located in Pendleton at Langworthy Cornerstone, Sovereign House is a place where technology becomes an enabler rather than a barrier.

The sessions are run by Irene and her team of digital champions. Irene has a background in care and is passionate about helping young people reach their full potential. She works tirelessly to support her students with digital skills, creating a supportive and encouraging environment.

Sovereign House offers learning programmes for everyone, from teenagers to people over 50. Irene and her team make sure that the sessions are paced according to the students' needs, ensuring that no one is left behind. Irene's commitment extends beyond the UK, as she also works in Ghana to care for disadvantaged and orphaned children, helping them reach their full potential.

What makes Sovereign House special is its focus on practical, hands-on learning. Students actively participate in their learning journey, which helps demystify technology and makes it accessible for everyone. The impact of Irene's work is clear, with students expressing a genuine love for the sessions and the skills they acquire.

Sovereign House helps people build connections, gain confidence, and open doors to new opportunities. Students appreciate the patience of the digital champions, who ensure that learning happens at a comfortable pace for everyone.

One on one digital skills training from the digital champions

Take Jane and her husband, for example. They are both eager to learn new digital skills, but Jane’s husband is hesitant to attend the sessions. So, Jane attends the classes, learns as much as she can, and then teaches her husband at home. Hopefully, one day, Jane’s husband will feel confident enough to join her in class.

In a world where digital exclusion can lead to social isolation and missed opportunities, Sovereign House stands as a testament to the power of community and education. With the right support and resources, everyone can thrive in the digital age.
