Salford City Council is the first council to back a female tech revolution!
Salford City Council is proud to be the first local authority in the country to sign up as a supporter of the Tech She Can charter, an initiative set up by PwC UK and 17 other founding organisations.
This is a commitment by organisations to work together to increase the number of women working in technology roles in the UK. It aims to tackle the root cause of the problem at a societal level by inspiring and educating young girls and women to get into tech careers.
We’re encouraging Salford schools to boost girls’ interest and participation in technology through free access to educational resources and toolkits. The Tech We Can lessons are designed around children’s interests, looking at areas such as tech for sports, travel, the environment and space, helping them to see the possibility that a career in technology can bring.
The lessons are female friendly and include a diverse range of role models in line with TechSheCan's purpose of increasing the diversity of the technology workforce. All of the lessons have an underlying theme of tech for good and inclusion. They are designed to be delivered by teachers, parents and non-specialist so you do not need any in depth tech knowledge in order to deliver the lessons to students.
As leaders in digital transformation and apprenticeships, we’re committed to innovation, inclusivity and inspiring the next generation. The city has developed a tech talent pipeline initiative to help residents make the most of its growing digital opportunities. Recent programmes such as our digital data and cyber academies were specifically designed to help create accessible routes into digital employment for women and other groups underrepresented in tech roles.
