Our teams showed fantastic support for all Salford residents looking to Get Online. Thanks to everyone involved in making Get Online Week such a success – we helped over 400 people at a range of our sessions.

Get Online Week is a national campaign to inspire people to do more online and help them learn how. In Salford, we’re committed to supporting residents all year round but Get Online Week was the ideal time for us to provide extra help and support to our residents. Throughout Get Online Week, Salford hosted many events in the gateways, community centres and hosted online classes contributing to Good Things Foundation’s National Get Online Week objective.

Our local gateway centres in Swinton, Walkden, Pendleton, Eccles and Broughton Hub held drop in sessions for lots of extra digital support during Get Online Week, Every day between 10am and 12 noon and 2pm to 4pm, staff were in the foyer with a large screen to help in whatever way was needed.

Although they are always there to provide support, during Get Online Week, we made sure it was even easier for residents to discover for themselves the benefits of going online.

In addition to the support from the gateway staff we welcomed TalkTalk Digital Champions who ran scam awareness sessions in our Gateways to help breakdown fears about scams online, as well as providing practical advice and tips to keep people safe.

Sally Davis one of our Digital Inclusion Officers helped residents at four community centres and individually supported residents with their enquiries. She said that she found it an absolute joy being out in the community, helping people with digital skills from typing up a cv to showing someone how to send an email. She also found it useful talking to people, seeing how we are already helping and finding out how we can continue to support our residents across Salford.

Our partners at HOST in Media City held two online courses for people to attend remotely to learn how to ‘Get Online and Build Your Portfolio’ and ‘Get Online and Be Cybersafe.’ It was great to have their support and involvement to provide further opportunities for anyone interested.

If you would like any further information about our services or require any support please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
