Wellbeing

Taking care of your mental health is really important for living a happy and balanced life. Just like we take care of our bodies, it's important to look after our minds and emotions. When we focus on mental health, we can handle stress better, make clearer decisions, and have stronger relationships. Good mental health helps us cope with challenges and enjoy life more. By taking care of our minds, we can feel better and be more productive, while also creating a more supportive environment for those around us.

According to evidence reviewed by the NHS, there are 5 steps to improving your mental health and wellbeing:

  1. Connect with other people
  2. Be physically active
  3. Learn new skills
  4. Give to others
  5. Mindfulness

Below, we offer some suggestions on how technology can help improve your mental health and wellbeing.

Tech and Tea

Tech and Tea offers fantastic support to Salford residents, over 50 years old who want help using technology.

What is Tech and Tea?

Tech and Tea is a free, informal learning program designed to help Salford residents over 50 who are interested in learning basic tablet skills. This course covers fundamental skills such as turning the tablet on and off, connecting to Wi-Fi, and understanding the basic buttons on the device. Throughout the course, participants will also learn about staying safe online, navigating the internet, creating an email address, and using Gmail. The course also introduces digital apps such as Zoom. The course runs for five weeks, with one two-hour session each week. A Lenovo Tab M10 tablet is provided for a small fee of £30, which is collected at the start of the course. The tablet comes with a protective case and a workbook for learners to refer to when needed. If, at the end of the course, participants decide not to keep the tablet, they can return all the equipment for a full refund.

Sessions run throughout the year.
