Do you speak English as a second language? If yes, then we have a course specifically designed for you to improve your English, which will help you in furthering your education or career.

English is the international language of communication and is spoken and used every day in the business world, across the internet and in popular culture. Being able to communicate in English will give you access to some of the world’s best universities and you will find that you have a greater number of possible careers to choose from after you have finished your studies.

Outline

We have courses of different levels that will help you to improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities in English as well as helping you to learn skills that are essential in the world of work, such as; teamwork and being able to talk to people with confidence.

English is spoken and used every day in the business world, in top films, books and music and all across the internet. This course will help you:

- Improve your English – reading, writing and speaking
- Practice English in subjects like Science, Technology, Engineering, and Art
- Learn useful skills in Maths, technology and communication

All the English and other skills you learn on this course will help with other courses you take at The Manchester College and make sure you can get a good job in the future.

Entry requirements

No specific entry requirement but you will be assessed before being placed on the appropriate level of the ESOL programme.

How will I be assessed 

You will be assessed regularly through progress reviews on all the subjects of the ESOL programme. These assessments can be project based, digital, paper based or oral.
Learners are assessed on the completion of assignments and progress are tracked on all independent learning tasks.

23 sessions for 2 hrs per session, online learning

Course aim

This ESOL course is for beginners. It will help you to develop basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skill in English. In this ESOL class we will talk about our everyday lives (for example, shopping, health, where you live). You will practise using the alphabet and numbers in different situations. You will practise talking about your daily life and form filling .

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to
  • Read write and say numbers up to 100
  • Fill in a basic form
  • Talk about my day
  • Use letter sounds to help me read simple words and sentences

How will I be taught?

You will do lots of different activities with examples from real life situations You will work together with other students and the tutor, as well as working on your own. Your tutor will give you homework

What kind of feedback can I expect?
Your tutor will help you to set targets for your learning. Your tutor will give you regular friendly feedback about your progress.
What else do I need to know?
All materials will be provided, Official document(s) showing the correct spelling of your name, address and date of birth. Certificates for any English / English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) qualifications you already have.
